Dyed Discs

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Nick, one of the owners of Valley Birds does all of our dyed discs by hand! He started dyeing discs as a hobby for his friends and card mates, now he gets to showcase his talents with Valley Birds.

  • There are two ways we dye our discs: spin dye and floetrol dye. Spin dyeing is done with a mix of acetone and dye coloring applied to the surface of the disc while spinning on a record player, spin dyes have the quickest turnaround time. Floetrol dyes are made in a floetrol bed where the design can be made using all types of methods of design characteristics, these dyes typically take 24 hours for the dye to set on the disc.

  • Absolutely! Just bring your discs into the shop and let us know what colors and design you want. We charge a dye fee of $10 for spin dyes and $15 for floetrol dyes.

The only requirements we have is that the disc be made of a premium/gloss plastic (ex. Star, Neutron, Grand, ESP); dye will not work on matte base plastics (ex. DX, Electron, Active). White discs allow more color creativity, but bright colors work as well.

  • Yes! A glow disc will still glow after the dye is applied. Certain brands do make brighter/better quality glow than others though so keep that in mind. Brands we personally recommend are MVP/Axiom Eclipse plastic and Innova’s Proto Glow plastic.
